may just be my favorite yet

A while back I found this chair at a thrift store for $30. I think I ran to the car with her. Look at all the details… the carving, the lines, the possibility……the DIRT. Yeah. this baby was filthy in her ugly tan coat!

012

I had great plans for this girlie, but she sat and sat and sat and sat and sat and sat. You get the picture.

One day as I saw her sitting out on my front sun porch with cobwebs covering her I FINALLY saw what she wanted to become! She wanted to live in my mommy den!!! Before this piece I had only completed one upholstery project, and it hasn’t held up too well. I did learn some tricks from my past mistakes, so I felt pretty sure that I could handle this.

I started by stripping this girlfriend down to. the. bone.

013

It took FOREVER to remove all 1,376,999 staples holding this upholstery on, but I fought through. A few hours later she looked like this:

017

I then gave her a new coat with my favorite halycon green. At this point she looked like this:

018

She looked bright, but I knew the glaze and distressing would calm her down. :) I spent the next few hours painstakingly reupholstering her in this loverly brown linen like fabric I found at my favorite fabric store.

Now these next pictures stink… For SOME reason I took them with my phone instead of my camera. I know. Idiot.

The bottom piece wasn’t too bad at all. The foam was still in great shape…

That back piece?? A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT. Once I got my technique down though I was rocking and rolling… UNTIL. Do you see that HUGE piece of foam? Yeah. That huge thing has to be stapled under a smaller piece of fabric. I had to call in my sexy secretary my hubby to help with that piece.

And here she sits ALMOST finished in my mommy den! Isn’t she divine?

011

Her loverly back…

Look at those little toes peeking out!

014

013

This is where the unfinished part comes in, BUT

012

I got this in the mail today to finish her up…. I couldn’t find this double welting ANYWHERE online without paying ridiculous shipping fees. The shipping cost more than the cord!! Did you say ridikurus?

Pray for me as I attempt double welting for the first time. I bought a special foot for my machine and everything… Pictures to follow soon.

Peace out.

This is beautiful!! I am takig an upholstery class and I don't think I could have done as good a job as you have done on this! Beautiful!

I did learn to do double cording with two separate cords, but this looks like it will be waaaaay easier! It is going to be GORGEOUS!

Great job!

Great job, good luck with the cording. I didn't even bother, but I admire you for trying.

I have a chair just like this & I can see how you did the cushion on the seat but can't figure out what you do behind the cushion on the back (to hold it all in). Your chair looks wonderful. Jan

I love the brown linen. You did a great job on the painting and upholstering. It's a great chair!

Thanks guys. I LOVE the way this chair turned out....

@Karli,This chair would be a great first project. Totally remove the seat, and recover it first... Just pull tight and staple. You'll be able to tell as you go along if it needs to be tighter. Just use your original fabric for patterns. I will be happy to walk you through it. lou0728@yahoo.com.
@Jan, what part are you having problems with? THe first piece to go on or the webbing?? Email me with your questions. lou0728@yahoo.com.

Great start and I have fingers crossed for you on the welting. Jane F.

I would have snapped that chair up, too. It looks wonderful. I've made double welting before, but I used to single welts and sewed them side by side (1st one, then flipped the fabric, trimmed and did the other one. I bought a double welt presser foot on line.) Good luck, it's really not difficult!

This is an awesome job! I have done cushions but I could never do that back. Can't wait for the double welt tutorial. I loved both sets of toes I say sticking out. Ginger

I have posted my first post ever at MM. Please take a look and offer any suggestions for improvement
