Taking a break
Just wanted to let you gals know that I won't be around for a couple of weeks. I'm heading out Friday to go spend 5 glorious days in Utah with my bff, Natalie. I can't wait..... I have tons to do before I go, and I know I'll have tons to do when I get home. I know I'll get to come back to all kinds of fabulousness you people have conjured up in my absence!

my favorite spot of the house
This is the before picture of my bedroom KINDA before… I was excited about my fabric, so I had already made my shams and new pillows for the bed and bought the quilt.Picture this bed with the same coverlet and shams, a green quilt at the bottom of the bed, and the pillows shown below in the rocker. This is exactly how things were hung furniture was placed. And that half naked kid??? She’s usually that way too. ;)
Feature 1: Capri pant curtains from my last house shown with the pillows that were on my bed…. Not bad, but I was tired of it. (Before you gasp, I KNEW the curtains were horrible, just not the bedding).
My dresser…
This side of the room was HORRIBLE…. That humongulous computer and the huge TV in that tiny space between Andrew’s closet doors….
See?? Horrific. Not you Nikki and Victor. I’m describing the TV and chest.
This is the view from the doorway today….
All the photographs are down and have been placed in other parts of the house…. I have my lurverly monogram above my bed and touches of blue here and there.
My new drapes…. Made from painter’s drop clothes for a big whooping price of $8.67 each. They’re plenty long and wide enough to cover both windows at night… I love them. Don’t judge me for the messy sewing space… I wasn’t even going to fake clean it up…It’s always messy. Deal with it. I have to have SOMEWHERE in this house to keep my machine….At least it beats the living room where it used to be. I am going to cute that desk up some though.
The antique computer was replaced with this antique chest that belonged to my great uncle. See the itty bitty teeny tiny TV? I decided that our room wasn’t going to be ruled by TV placement any more. This table is small enough that I can scoot it in one side of Andrew’s closet if I need to. I started to put it up for this tour, but I decided to show you my fix for my TV problem.
More of the chest with this mirror…
This is my funky element in my room….Everybody needs a little zebra. Andrew is going to build a tall thin armoire with doors to hide the TV….. right after he builds a bed with a trundle, a new nightstand, and an armoire for the girls’ room redo. Yeah, won’t be anytime soon.
Mammy’s shelf redone…in between my closet and bathroom doors.
The dresser now….I redid that urn: My grandmother made that clock...That is also her jewelry box.
Andrew’s side of the bed…..My sister Lee covets those monkeys...Isn't that a sin?
My side of the bed… That lamp isn’t quite as green as it looks in this pictures…. The colors compliment each other….They don’t match, they COMPLIMENT. ;)
That is my favorite picture of ALL TIME of my boys…. Those candle holders?? Less than $10 for the pair at TJMaxx.
Another view of Andrew’s side…..
View from my side of the bed…..
This room was TOTALLY redone for around $175 give or take a couple bucks…. I think it looks like a million bucks, and it sure feels like it…. I still haven’t decided what I want to cover that white pillow with, and I want to do some kind of fun fabric treatment on the chair.
This room is my sanctuary…. the only place I can come for some quiet time. I love coming in here now and am just filled with peace when I’m here…. I’m here right now writing this post, the doors locked to keep toddlers and teenagers out. It beats hiding in the bathroom! Speaking of bathrooms, that post is tomorrow. I redid my ENTIRE bathroom for $100. I gave myself a challenge, and I stuck to it… Come back tomorrow for that tour.
Love you my peeps,

i’d like to welcome back my unholidayish decor.
As much as I LOVE Christmas I also love taking down all the decorations and getting my house back to “normal”. When I take it all down I like to move my other things around a bit….Gotta change things up! This weekend I really worked on getting some things placed “just so”. I’m not completely satisfied, but I like it for right now. :)
Here is my hutch at Christmas covered in Santas and my village..
Here she is today holding my great grandmother, Tennie’s, china and crystal along with some of my vintage ironstone:
I love the simplicity of the dainty floral and white… It looks so clean and fresh. I was thinking about putting something in my apothecary jars, but for now I’m liking them empty….
My Aunt Rene gave me this antique ironstone platter that belonged to my great grandmother….It’s at least 100 years old, and I LOVE it…I love all the imperfections and discolorations…It shows me that she loved and used this piece often.
Gone are the Christmas plates:
Replaced with my TJMaxx favorites:
So long Snowmen!
Hello, hand painted fruit plates! These were painted for me by my Bigmama and are very special to me.
The Santas and poinsettia have been replaced on my library table with
antique Blue Willow plates and some rustic pieces:
An old cement planter, a rustic jar, and a new black and white picture of my little girlies….
I got that adorable rabbit candle holder for Christmas. Does it look ok mixed with those other pieces??
This table is finished off with some of my all time favorite pictures of my boys…. They were 3 and 4 in these pictures. Like the dust on that table?? Yeah, I just noticed it….
I feel so reenergized having gotten rid of the Christmas explosion. It feels SO good to do something new! What have you done differently since you’ve put up your Christmas decorations?
I’m linking up with Metamorphosis Monday.

superfantastical giveaway tomorrow!
Wanna hint?? Well, it involves ruffles and this:
Come back tomorrow for details!
watch out pottery barn! I’m about to knock you out….
More like knock you off! ;) Sweet Andrew and I are going to the flea market and antiquing today. We couldn’t think of a better way to start off the new year or a better way to spend the last day “off” we have together…. I have some certain things in mind that I spotted in the new Pottery Barn catalog….. Y’all know me WAY to well to think that I would pay their prices, so I am going to attempt to politely copy them. These are some things I’m in search of….. I’ll update you when we get home to see if I scored.
Old finials…. Love these! PB price- $19-$39
Beautiful Canisters based on French candy jars….
Antique Pickling Jars filled with vintage silverware. I LOVE how the rustic jars are paired with the silver. PB $139-$169!
Rustic candleholders PB $24-$49. I’m thinking we could find some old porch rails or architectural pieces to make some of these. LOVE LOVE LOVE that nest on the candleholder! DIVINE.
Small glass canisters for my vanity…. PB$19-$44
Some old platters to make a couple of these: PB $99
And finally, I want a bunch of silver candlesticks like these, and I AM DYING over that hurricane with the silver base…. This is my MAIN focus tomorrow…. I have some hurricanes, just gotta find the candlesticks that’ll work….
I don’t intend on having the luck or enough money in my pocketbook to find ALL these items, but I’m gonna get all I can. I think I’m going to give myself a budget of $50 unless I find a piece of furniture…..Then I MAY go to $100 total…. May the thrifting force be with me!
