sweet little desk

This little desk caught my eye in my favorite thrifty furniture store… There was nothing structurally wrong with this lady. She just needed some TLC. Don’t you feel sorry for sweet pieces when you see them with this ugly old finish on them?? I do!

I stripped the top and restained it dark walnut. The finish was so worn I probably COULD have just sanded. In the picture above the top is covered in Citristrip. After I had the top all stripped down and ready for stain I painted the bottom with Sherwin William’s antique white. I then distressed it and glazed it with Ralph Lauren’s smoke… It’s exactly how I wanted it to look!

Isn’t she precious now?? I put three coats of wipe on poly on the wood top, and it’s ready for a new home! I painted a chair to match, and I think they look great together….

Here’s a close up of the top and the glazing/distressing on the drawers….

I love this double drawer on top…. This would be perfect for me to use in my sewing room, but I guess I can’t keep EVERYTHING I redo! LOL!

I was thrilled with the way the top turned out….Can I keep it honey?? Can I keep it?? :) Andrew says no, so this little sweet girl needs a loving adoptive family. Let me know if you think she’ll fit in with your family.

Thanks for looking!

It is perfect! I love how you did the distressing~ very very fabulous. Some people probably don't know how *hard* it is to make something look old :)

I am absolutely in love with the way that you distress your furniture! I can see what products and paint colors you are using, but I searched your blog for a bit and can't find a "how to" or tutorial that you had written on you distressing techniques. Can you help me out?? Thanks -- jennifer@strawcleaner.com
