so, I’ll tell you what I want what i really really want..

It’s decision time at my house… BIG decision time. SOFA decision time.  This is the sofa we have now:

038

We bought this HUGE leather couch and chair about 5 years ago. It’s brown with red undertones…. It’s a good couch….getting a little worn in places, but it’s still in good shape. It’s been fantastic while the girls were toddling around with sippy cups and bottles…wipe on wipe off. The only problem? It’s just really not my style anymore. We live in a real cottage in Fairhope, AL. You know what a real cottage means don’t you?? The living room isn’t huge… Cottage rooms aren’t huge. They’re small….This couch and the matching chair seem to take over the space…. I’m wanting to move towards a softer feel….. I’m recovering pieces in red toile and natural cotton duck…. I WANT a sofa to go along with my vision. Now. I KNOW you peeps know me as a cheap thrifty shopper. There are a few things I won’t go cheap on, and a sofa is one of them.  I won’t be looking on Craigslist for one to recover. NOPE. I don’t want a used sofa… Just don’t. That’s just something I’m firm about. It’s the most used piece of furniture in my home with the exception of a bed…. Cause we do spend more hours sleeping in our bed than sitting on the sofa. :) I want a classic sofa with GOOD bones. I also want a slipcovered sofa…. It would be nice to be able to take it off and give it a good wash every now and then.  The obvious choice is this from Pottery Barn:

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve sat on their couches in the store… They’re SO comfy, and I LOVE the look….. I can see this in my living room with my pretty pillows and the pieces I’m recovering….

When we started selling furniture we decided immediately this is our “Extra fun money”. This money is put aside for more trips to fantastical places like Jamaica and NYC, so hubby and I will have the luxury of getting away. I SAID that the first thing we were doing was planning a trip back to Jamaica for this summer. We had such an amazing time, and it totally reconnected us… (You can see the pics here). Now I’m totally waivering in my decision…. WHAT do we do?? I KNOW that we’ll make enough money to go back to Jamaica, and I REALLY REALLY REALLY want this couch…

I’m sure we could make a few hundred dollars selling our existing couch and chair on Craigslist…. I was thinking $400?? Does that sound about right?? I know we’ll make SOMETHING to put towards it….. It’s an expensive piece, and I’m trying not to be impulsive…

See? It’s decision time…

I say you wait for the new furniture and slowly build your little nest money for it. Separate nest money from the trip money though. Your couch is still in good condition and your kids are big enough it won't get ruined so you could still sell it for quite a bit. The $400 seems very reasonable. I say to wait a bit, the trip with your husband will reconnect you and that would be more important!

This is my first visit to your blog. Just love it and can't help but click the follow button. Looking forward to seeing what you decide. I love your current couch ... so if it was me - that holiday sounds amazing!!!

Think of all the time you & your hubby could spend reconnecting on your new couch :) You don't have to go away to reconnect, ya know! I say sell the old one and put the $$ towards a new one. It will make you so happy!

Have you looked at the Ektorp at Ikea. I have the chairs and just got a white slipcover for one of the two chairs and I really love it. These chairs have held up so well for me and I've heard good things about the sofa, as well.

Love the ideas for the couch, hope you can get it! (I like to keep my blog and my email separate, otherwise I get too much stuff in my email..plus I like comments to be on my blog and comment section.) :D

Kathy is right, Ikea's Ektorps are amazing for us slip lovin' gals. I will say this...I spent 900 dollars 11 years ago on my sofa, it's cushions are amazing! It still looks new, it's a simple slip cover look although not slipcovered. More of a soft beige. Not white. However it's still beautiful, and I think when you buy a sofa, you must get what you want. As for selling yours, if you no longer want them, go for it, the money will pay for the ikea ones or go towards a pricier piece if you need. Thanks for your sweet words on my blog, you're so kind and I'm glad we met.
