the little table that started it all, and thank you Miss mustard seed

As I was making my bed up this morning I realized that I’ve never shared this table with you guys… Let me tell you a short story. I am in LOVE with Marian at Miss Mustard Seed. I have been since she only had about 50 followers… We used to email back and forth about our blogs all the time. I don’t think anyone is more thrilled over her success than I am…. She is the sweetest thing ever….not to mention UBER talented. I started falling in love with all her stained and painted pieces like this one:

Her dining room made me swoon….

I loved her mix of dark woods and light fabrics (all slipcovered by her).

Painting furniture and redoing things for my home wasn’t new to me, but I had never tackled stripping and staining. I had watched my mama do it in our garage for the majority of my childhood and young life… I loved it but didn’t think that I could do it.

Enter Marian. She not only shows us divine items to drool over and inspire us, but she also shares her knowledge. FOR FREE. You don’t have to buy an ebook to see how she does things…. She willingly shares, so we can all have a chance to learn. Can you tell I love her?

After reading her tutorials I finally decided to take the stripping plunge. I had wanted to redo this table for YEARS. I loved it, but the finish on top was horrible, and the bottom was all scratched and dinged up. I knew I didn’t want to cover ALL this gorgeous table with paint… You can see where I started stripping here. This was back in the day before I was constantly doing furniture, and my carport was empty!

My first piece stripped and sanded! I was so full of myself!

Here she is in my bedroom today:

I painted her with some Behr paint in antique white, distressed her, and glazed her with Minwax dark walnut stain. The top was done in the same stain and sealed with wipe on poly. THIS is how I always KNEW she could look!

I know that I’m just a little old blogger out here in Blogging world, but I just wanted to tell Marian how much I appreciate her and all her bloggy love and inspiration. She led me to do something that I didn’t think I could do, and for that I will always be thankful. She showed me that I could do WHATEVER I wanted if I just put for the effort… She came to me during a part of my life where I was so depressed about my failing health and what all I COULDN’T do. She encouraged and supported me and helped me come out of that funk and be better than ever…. So thank you, Marian. You are such a great example to all of us, and I am proud to know you even in the small capacity that I do.

Much love to you,

Wow! Thank you so much for all of the love. Your table looks gorgeous and you should be full of yourself about it! I may have inspired you, but you did all of the work, so...I tip my hat. Well done! :)

Your table is beautiful...I have one like that next to our bed too but it is still in it's original finish and I really don't dare touch it. But I love yours! ;D

I've seen lots of bloggers turning old unloved pieces into new treasures and kept thinking I need to do something (I need a practice piece before I touch my lovely library table). But for whatever reason, seeing you do it inspired me to actually decide to DO something. I bought a little hand sander and am ready to go to town :)
